Certified Nurse Midwives (CNM) is an advanced nurse with specialized training in caring for women throughout the lifespan and the newborn. A CNM is similar to a Nurse Practitioner expect a CNM is able to care for a women in labor and the delivery of her baby. Most certified nurse midwives work in the hospital setting and work in partnership with obstetrician.
You do not need to be pregnant to see a CNMs. CNMS perform physical exams, prescribe medications including contraceptive methods, order laboratory tests as needed, provide prenatal care, and gynecological care.
