Changes in the breast are usually the first thing a pregnant women experiences. During the first trimester the breast undergoes many changes. The hormone estrogen stimulates the necessary changes in the breast to promote breastfeeding. The breast often become tender and full as the breast lobes are growing in number and in size. The nipples will also become larger and deeper in color. For most women the tenderness typically resolves by the end of the first trimester.
