Round Ligament Pain

Lower abdominal pain in pregnancy is also known as round ligament pain. This occurs in the second and third trimesters as the uterus is growing and the ligament supporting the uterus is stretched. The pain is often occurs with a quick change in position and tends to be on one side of the belly often described as a pinch.

One of the good suggestions is that one should change sleeping and sitting position frequently to avoid occurrence and persistence of this pain.

Tips

  • Use good body mechanics when bending of lifting objects
  • Changes positions slowly, especially from sitting to standing
  •  Appling heat can also help with the discomfort
